High-end tube sound

The Tube Box series has been a core part of our product lineup for many years. Now, the new Tube Box DS3 B brings balanced inputs and outputs to our well-loved tube amplification concept. This precision tube phono preamplifier benefits from advanced circuit design by Dr. Sykora and uses only top-grade components.

Connect your turntable via a 5-pin mini-XLR cable or standard XLR cables and take full advantage of balanced signal transmission. A balanced (symmetrical) transmission carries a hot (+) and a cold (–) signal, both containing the same musical information. The Tube Box DS3 B extracts the final musical content from these +/– signals while eliminating noise that may have been introduced along the signal path.

Every component — including the tube output stage and polypropylene capacitors — is audiophile-grade, ensuring a breathtaking and highly musical listening experience.

Cartridge loading options

You can connect two turntables simultaneously, and all settings are easily adjustable from the front panel. Each input stores its own configuration in memory.

Gain ranges from 40 dB up to 65 dB, allowing perfect matching with a wide variety of cartridges and seamless integration into your Hi-Fi system, with accurate volume alignment to other sources such as CD players or streamers.

Load impedance can be adjusted continuously via a potentiometer, a feature invented by Pro-Ject Audio Systems.

This allows you to fine-tune impedance in real time during playback and immediately hear the effect of your adjustments — essential for finding the ideal load for your cartridge. No other manufacturer implements this feature with such precision.

External power supply

The Tube Box DS3 B is powered by an external adapter. Keeping all components that can radiate electromagnetic fields outside the amplifier enclosure is crucial, which is why we use an outboard power supply.

Due to regulatory requirements, the included power supply must be a switch-mode type, with a guaranteed standby consumption of only 0.1 W.

However, a linear power supply provides much cleaner power. To achieve true high-end power delivery, the transformer must have very low core saturation, ideally with shielding between primary and secondary windings.

Linear power supply upgrade

Low core saturation minimizes electromagnetic radiation that could enter sensitive audio circuitry. Shielding between windings acts as an effective filter against mains interference. Combined with a DC blocker, which prevents core saturation caused by DC offset, the filtration becomes even more effective. Transformer vibration is also significantly reduced.

Such a transformer must be vacuum-impregnated, resulting in increased size and cost. For this reason, a high-end linear power supply requires a housing as large as the Tube Box DS3 B itself.

The power supply should not be placed near the Tube Box DS3 B, nor close to large transformers in amplifiers or other equipment that may introduce electromagnetic interference. Even a thick metal/aluminium chassis has its limits. The best setup is to position it as far away as possible from harmful electromagnetic fields.

Our Power Box DS2 Sources is the next step in fully maximizing the performance potential of the Tube Box DS3 B.
