Inspired by Wharfedale’s original Denton loudspeaker introduced in 1967, the Denton 1S reimagines the compact hi-fi speaker for today’s listening spaces. Rather than simply recreating a vintage model, Wharfedale has developed a modern design built around a clean coaxial point-source architecture, allowing the speaker to deliver precise timing, strong stereo focus, and a wide listening area from a compact cabinet.
At the centre of the Denton 1S is a newly developed coaxial driver system. A 25mm silk-dome tweeter is positioned concentrically within a 165mm black polypropylene mid/bass cone, allowing both drivers to radiate from a single acoustic centre. This design improves phase coherence, image stability, and tonal consistency whether the listener is seated directly in front of the speakers or slightly off-axis.
The bass-reflex enclosure is engineered to produce controlled low-frequency extension while keeping the cabinet compact and practical for real-world rooms. With a bass extension down to 45Hz and a frequency response of 50Hz to 20kHz, the Denton 1S offers a full, natural presentation suited to music, television, small-room hi-fi systems, and lifestyle audio setups.
Placement flexibility is a major part of the Denton 1S design. It can be positioned on stands, shelves, desktops, or mounted securely to a wall using the rear 3/8-inch threaded mounting point. A rear-panel Brilliance EQ switch allows the sound to be subtly adjusted for free-space placement or near-wall installation, making it easier to achieve balanced performance in different environments.
The cabinet combines modern construction with distinctive heritage-inspired styling. Smooth curved edges, a clean front baffle, a classic cloth grille, and retro Wharfedale badging give the speaker a refined character, while multi-layer cabinet panels, internal bracing, and controlled damping help reduce unwanted resonance. Available in matte black, matte white, and matte blue finishes, the Denton 1S is designed to look at home in modern interiors while preserving the spirit of classic British audio.
