FiiO’s return to retro audio began with the DM13, bringing the portable CD player back into the spotlight. Guided by extensive user feedback, FiiO carefully refined the concept, resulting in its second-generation portable CD player.
The DM15 R2R represents the latest achievement of FiiO’s research and development, integrating five core technologies into an even more compact and sophisticated design.
The result is a device that seamlessly blends the organic, analog sound character of classic portable CD players with a rich set of modern features.
Comprehensively Upgraded
The DM15 R2R marks a significant leap forward, combining a smaller footprint with an even more powerful and versatile feature set. Housed within its portable chassis are five core pillars—the CD servo, USB DAC, R2R module, and Bluetooth module, all precisely coordinated by an advanced MCU (microcontroller unit). This deep, system-level evolution enhances every aspect of performance, firmly positioning the DM15 R2R as a class-leading portable CD player.
R2R DAC with True Analog Character
Rather than relying on the conventional delta-sigma DACs found in most modern audio devices, the DM15 R2R employs a custom resistor-to-resistor (R2R) ladder DAC—a rarity in today’s portable CD players. To faithfully recreate the sound signature of classic portable CD playback, FiiO developed a proprietary four-channel, fully differential 24-bit R2R DAC.
This architecture is built around 192 precision thin-film resistors (48 per channel), each selected for 0.1% accuracy and ultra-low temperature drift (30 ppm). The result is a sound that is warm, nuanced, and naturally musical, delivering the analog richness that listeners remember and love.
Custom CD Mechanism
Building on the foundation of its predecessor, the DM15 R2R features a further-refined custom CD mechanism. A self-rebounding steel-ball disc alignment design ensures smoother disc insertion and removal while reducing the risk of scratching.
Due to the inherent structural limitations of portable CD mechanisms, perfect disc reading under all conditions cannot be guaranteed. FiiO continues to improve disc-reading performance through ongoing firmware updates. Minor skipping with certain high-capacity CDs may occur and is considered normal, as disc performance can vary based on manufacturing tolerances, materials, and recording conditions.

Listen Your Way
The DM15 R2R combines a portable CD player, HiFi-grade USB DAC, high-resolution USB/CD Bluetooth transmitter, and a USB/CD digital transport into a single device. This all-in-one design delivers far greater versatility and system compatibility than most portable CD players.
Powerful Headphone Outputs
The front-mounted 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm balanced headphone outputs feature dedicated amplification. Compared to the DM13, output power has been increased by 66% and 74% respectively, providing improved drive capability and a more engaging listening experience with a wide range of headphones and earphones.
Advanced Bluetooth Functionality
Where retro meets modern. Equipped with the Qualcomm QCC3095 Bluetooth chipset, the DM15 R2R supports both standard and high-resolution Bluetooth codecs, including aptX, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, and SBC. Bluetooth transmission is available for both CD playback and USB input, while a newly designed visual interface makes pairing and device management faster and more intuitive.
HiFi USB DAC Functionality
The long-awaited USB DAC function is now fully realized. In addition to delivering excellent CD playback quality and compatibility, the DM15 R2R functions as a HiFi-grade USB DAC, supporting sampling rates up to 384 kHz / 32-bit and DSD256. Thanks to the R2R DAC architecture, USB playback retains the same natural musicality and analog character.
EQ Presets
The DM15 R2R features 3 BASS modes combined with 8 built-in EQ presets, offering up to 24 selectable sound profiles. A specially tuned RETRO preset delivers a warm, rich, and classic analog sound signature.
Electronic Shock Protection
Designed for portable use, the DM15 R2R includes Electronic Shock Protection (ESP) to reduce skipping and ensure stable playback while on the move. Enabling ESP improves playback stability; however, toggling the function does not significantly alter disc-reading performance.
Battery Performance
A specially selected 4700 mAh / 3.85 V high-voltage pure-cobalt lithium battery powers the DM15 R2R, delivering up to 7 hours* of continuous music playback. This provides ample listening time without constant concern for recharging.
*Actual battery life may vary depending on usage conditions such as output volume.
Desktop Mode
For home use, Desktop Mode bypasses the battery and powers the device directly, protecting the battery even during high-power operation. This significantly reduces charge-discharge cycles and helps extend overall battery lifespan. If the battery reaches 0%, charging will automatically resume—even with Desktop Mode enabled—to safeguard battery health.
USB CD Ripping
As a bonus feature, the DM15 R2R allows you to rip CDs directly to WAV files on a USB-C storage device. These files can be easily transferred to computers or smartphones, letting you enjoy your CD collection anytime, anywhere.
*Supports FAT32-formatted storage only. CD ripping is limited to CDDA audio. For firmware updates or CD ripping, a USB-C flash drive (32 GB or smaller) is recommended.
TFT Display
The retro-inspired UI blends modern and vintage design for an interface that is both visually appealing and easy to use. It clearly displays key information such as battery level, operating mode, EQ settings, sampling rate, Bluetooth device list, and more—keeping you fully in control of your listening experience.
Classic Physical Controls
The retro design incorporates mechanical buttons, keys, and knobs, delivering intuitive operation and satisfying tactile feedback. Each interaction enhances the sensory experience of CD listening—engaging sight, touch, and sound.
Transparent Window Design
The DM15 R2R features a minimalist yet stylish design with an aluminum alloy chassis that feels solid and premium. Both the transparent lid and front panel are made from tempered glass, offering improved durability and scratch resistance. Available finishes include White, Silver, Black, and Red.
Included Remote Control
An infrared remote control is included, allowing convenient operation from a distance.
